My Back Pages

I am a news junkie, often drawn to the news which is not main stream. These are some stories which caught my eye.

Now Cooum clean up has been in the news a lot in Chennai. Since I studied at MCCHS and  Loyola college, one could say that the banks of the Cooum have been part of my youth. But finally there is a serious effort to clean up the river. Mr Stalin, our Deputy CM has visited San Antonio , Texas and Singapore to get a first hand look at their ability  to clean rivers in their cities. It been reported that the Singapore model is one which may fit the Cooum restoration.

The second photo is about the Mantra Surf Club. The Surfing Swamijis  are an unique group of seers who help others achieve spiritual advancement, thro the adrenaline pumping sport of surfing. The surfing ashram is located at Murfi which is 30 Km north of Mangalore. Its reported that there are only 12 surfers in India of which 7 are Swamijis.

The final photo is about how tough its to get into good schools in Chennai. This is a picture of parents standing in line to get application forms for their children to get admission at the DAV school at Gopalapuram.

Thanks for all the comments. We will start our account soon. But please contribute generously to all our causes, including Meera's.

  1. Iam sick & tired of reading about Tiger Woods' crash &the exposure of his personal life thereafter and also of the party crashers at the White house state dinner for Manmohan Singh. So any other news, even of Cooum clean up is a welcome change!! If San Antonio model is to be followed, it would mean that tourists & Chenniites would be going on a boat cruise along the Cooum river!Interesting to imagine!

Surfing Swamijis look like a good hobby for Naga & Raghu to pursue!!!

We are having a snow day in Houston today & this is the first I have seen here in the past 4 years!!!
    Happay Holidays to everyone!

  2. With the cooum getting cleaned up, me and Naga shall meditate to glory along its banks.Needless to say VIT P will be planted along its length to enable us achieve Nirvana!!!!.

Why a big silence in the blog lately? Has it all been talk the talk and not walk the walk when it comes to charity? or is a pure co-incidence that everyone has suddently become too busy!!!!

Come on guys we can do better. No backing off from the commitments promised.

Silence on the blog does not mean silence on the charity front. We need to come up with fresh topics to keep the blog fires burning, thats all.

So, is Latha's hibernation continuing? Cant we get a peek out of her so we know she is still on God's green earth!

Is Vit P what I think it is?

Congrats on your acheivement! That child did well. Can you please give me the cheque details ,so that I can follow it up. I however would like to use the money for a child from Maldives,3 month old with Mayasthenia ,and currently H1NI induced ARDS. On HFO. We are unable to get funds because of his international status. Do not know why he came here for a diagnosis.
